Our tribal Education Department is dedicated to helping ensure that the children of the Habematolel Pomo of Upper Lake receive the best possible education at all levels. In order for our community to thrive, our children must have the educational tools to pursue their professional interests as they grow. This means providing a strong foundation upon which their futures will be built
The importance of early childhood education is no secret. A wealth of research throughout recent years has clearly shown the positive impact of an early start to structured learning. It’s not only a matter of jump-starting the educational process. Long-term studies have shown that children who attend early childhood education are less likely to commit a crime or rely on public assistance as adults. The future well-being of our community relies on the educational engagement of our youngest citizens, so that they can grow into productive members of society.
As part of our effort to offer the best possible environment for the people of our community, we’re pleased to provide an early childhood education program for preschool children ages 3-5. Our stated mission of making the lives of our children better starts in the classroom, where they can begin not just learning fundamental concepts but developing vital interpersonal skills. In this program, our children form the social bonds and intellectual base for a brighter future.
Before regular schooling even begins, we owe it to our children to provide for them a place where they can productively learn and grow. Our most precious natural resource is also our most fragile. Of all the educational programs we administer, it’s this one that we are perhaps most proud of. When the early development of our children gets off to an effective start, there’s no limit to their future potential.
