The Habematolel Pomo of Upper Lake are always happy to support youth education in our region in whatever way possible. In addition to our scholarships and in-house educational programs, we’ve assisted a few more initiatives, all with the goal of boosting the educational potential of our youngest tribal members, as well as our local friends and neighbors.
We’re proud to announce our latest gift, a $1,000 donation to Ms. Canela’s 7th grade science class at ULMS. We learned of the class’ need through tribal youth Madeline Young, who drafted a letter formally requesting the funds so that all members of her class would be able to participate in fun and challenging scientific experiments. The decision to help out was an easy one.
Once approved by the Tribal Council, Executive Council Vice Chairperson Arroyo personally awarded the check to Ms. Canela and Madeline, setting the class forward on their journeys of discovery.
Our Executive Council is always receptive to the needs of the community, especially when our children are involved. It is a point of pride for the Habematolel Pomo that we are able to provide help to those who need it. When it comes to the education of the youth of our tribe and the Upper Lake area as a whole, we consider ourselves fortunate to have the ability to lend a helping hand. When there’s an opportunity to help bolster the future of our community, the choice to help out is an easy one.
